The TIRED Movement stands tall as a symbol of resilience, determination, and the unwavering belief in the transformative power of dance, and communities working together to make change happen.
Within the world of dance, echoes of inequality persist, casting shadows over the vibrant tapestry of movement and rhythm. It’s within this realm that not-for-profit organisations such as the TIRED Movement emerge as beacons of hope, striving to improve racial equality in dance and continuously amplifying the voices that are often marginalized. TIRED believe “the more voices we hear, the louder we become.”
As part of Shades Dancewear’s genuine commitment to support racial equity and representation in dance education and the wider dance community, we at Shades Dancewear pledge to donate 10% of our profits towards the TIRED Movement and their long-term campaign to improve racial equality in dance.
We recognise that the lack of diversity in dance is an issue that affects many people, and we are committed to using our resources and platform to help address and overcome these issues. Everybody should have access to dancewear that matches their skin tone.
By supporting the TIRED Movement, we aim to promote diversity and inclusivity across all aspects of dance, and we hope to raise awareness of these issues and actively work towards a more equitable future for the next generation of dancers.
We believe that our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement is an important part of who we are as a company. We know that our customers care about social and environmental issues, and we want to make a positive impact in the world by supporting causes that are relevant to and benefit them.
In addition to the positive impact that supporting diversity in dance can have on our society, we believe that it is also good for our business. By being associated with a cause that promotes inclusivity and positive change, we hope to enhance our brand image and appeal to a broader audience of customers who share our values.
Born out of co-founder Stacey Green’s lived experience as mixed-race dancer and teacher, and the support of passionate individuals, this movement is a testament to the notion that change begins with action.
The TIRED Movement isn’t your typical organisation – it’s a family, a community of dancers, choreographers, and advocates, all with one goal: to break down barriers and truly bring people together through dance. They’re not just talking the talk; they’re walking the walk, conducting research, hosting workshops for students and faculty as part of The Conversation Tour, supporting Ambassadors, educating individuals and organisations among much more, to raise the awareness and make the difference far and wide.
But, let’s be honest, it’s not all smooth moves and jazz hands. The TIRED Movement faces its fair share of challenges – outdated attitudes, microaggressions and gaslighting – you name it. But the TIRED Movement will not back down. With every hurdle and setback encountered, TIRED come back stronger, fuelled by the belief that change is not just possible, but necessary.
The TIRED Movement joined JustGiving to launch their fundraising campaign. By donating today, you can help dancers in need by ensuring they have the tools they need to shine on stage.
