Celebrating Women in Dance: Innovation, Representation and the Story Behind Shades Dancewear
International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder to take a moment and celebrate the women in our lives, the women shaping industries, the women challenging norms, and the women creating opportunities for future generations. For Shades Dancewear, it’s also an important moment to recognise the inspiring story behind our female-founded brand and the mission that continues to drive us forward.
Shades Dancewear was co-founded by Stacey Green, a passionate advocate for representation and inclusivity within the dance world. After witnessing the lack of skin tone dancewear options available to dancers of colour, Stacey set out to create a brand that celebrated every dancer’s identity. Filling an extraordinary gap in the dancewear industry. What began as a vision for more inclusive dancewear has grown into a movement dedicated to confidence, diversity, and empowerment on and off the stage.
Today, Shades Dancewear proudly offers inclusive dancewear, skin tone ballet shoes, jazz shoes, tights, and dance essentials designed to support dancers across multiple disciplines including ballet, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre. Our products are created to help dancers feel seen, represented, and confident in their own skin.
Innovation in dancewear doesn’t just come from fabric and design, it comes from listening to dancers and understanding their experiences. As a female-founded dancewear brand, Shades Dancewear continues to challenge industry norms and champion representation within the performing arts.
But this journey isn’t just about the Shades Dancewear founders. Shades Dancewear is supported by an incredible community of women dancers, teachers, creatives, ambassadors, and supporters who inspire us every day. Their stories, resilience, and artistry continue to push the dance industry forward.
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women leading change in dance. The choreographers, studio owners, teachers, performers, and young dancers stepping into the studio for the first time.
Because when women innovate, collaborate, and uplift one another, the entire dance community moves forward!
